The Magic of being 'Lost'! 🤩⭐️

This Week's Magic! ✨

Being 'Lost' has never felt so complete. Well, admittedly not completely lost, but hidden away from everything in the most perfect spot, miles from any major road or highway. If you've been following me for any time, you'll likely know that getting our kayaks wet is a priority everywhere we go, and Yellowstone has been no exception.

We'd been looking for a spot to put our boats in while here at the park, but NOT Yellowstone Lake.....why you may ask? Well, Yellowstone Lake is as formidable as it is majestic. At 20 miles in length and 14 miles across, a kayak violently bobs around much like a bottle lost as sea....and that's not the kind of 'lost' we were looking for! We wanted the lost feeling that comes from a deeper connection with nature; an experience of sacred 'oneness' with the woods, wind, and water. 

Years before ever hitting the road, we'd been talking about the experience of finding a lake in the wilderness without the overhead roar of planes, or the incessant drone of commuters continually washing over us from a nearby interstate. We wanted a quietness that announced itself! A quietness that waited for your attention and reverence. In perfect serendipitous fashion, we got busy with local maps and found our spot: Lost Lake. It is literally named 'Lost Lake'. Just seeing the name, I knew this was it. This was for us.

Looking more closely at the map, we knew we'd have to work for it. It was off the beaten path, requiring us to park a half mile away, and portage across hilly and sagebrush riddled terrain.....oh! while also watching for bears! Even though we've hiked scores of miles in our 10+ months out west, I'm here to testify that this tiny little half-mile trek took an hour one way! With wonderment and wear, we finally arrived at the edge of all we'd imagined. There it lay....glacier fed and pristine, the brilliant emerald-black mountain water sparkled, having revealed its beauty to the woods over the ages–having never relied on anyone's admiration.

There we were, right in the middle of nowhere, just like we'd imagined and talked about so many times before. The gravity of it actually hit once we felt the weight of the lake beneath us. This was the day we'd once only talked about–dreamed about! We were here! This was really happening.
The only sound was the wind as it danced through the leaves and across the surface of the lake...we were 'Lost'.  We spent a couple of hours soaking in the experience, never allowing any gloom to set in over the arduous 1 hour portage back to the truck.

Sufficiently knackered, we did make it back, feeling absolutely amazed and grateful. I seem to always relive wonder when dreams come true. I'm absolutely filled with gratitude over our recent experience, and I'm thankful to share it with you. I'm a firm believer in not giving up on the things we dream about. Keep believing, you just may find yourself 'lost' as well! ❤️
